Written in 1953 by George Cory (music) and Douglass Cross (Lyrics) this has become the signature song of Tony Bennett since he recorded it for Columbia in 1962. Indeed Bennett acknowleges it as making him a world citizen. But the song was written for the Great Californian Opera contralto, Claramae Turner (1917-2013), who often sang it as an encore but who never recorded it. And prior to Bennett getting the song it was offered to Tennesee Ernie Ford, who turned it down, only to later buy the rights to record it in 1963. It has been 'covered' by more than 20 of the world's most influential performers, singers and orchestras to date. In 1963 Bennet was awarded the Grammy for best male solo artist and the song won the Grammy for best song of the year. It is the official anthem of the city of San Francisco and is played at all major sporting and public events. Bennett's recording is heard over the PA system at AT&T Park whenever the Giants win but the Bulls have it played at Cow Palace after their home games, win lose or draw!

This arrangement is based on the teachings of Mr Glen Rose, professional musician artist and entertainer of Los Angeles, California whose advice I appreciate.
