Written for the movie 'Going Places' in 1938, starring Ronald Reagan and featuring Louis Armstrong as the traineer of a racehorse named 'Jeepers Creepers' this little song has become a Jazz standard. Jeepers Creepers apparently is a wild beast which can only be calmed when trainer (Gabriel) plays and sings the song. The term 'jeepers creepers' is a minced oath euphemism for Jesus Christ which pre-dated the film. For many years the song became a joyful romantic ditty but it featured in a horror series in 2001 when it accompanied the appearence of the demon called "Jeepers Creepers". Recorded by many Jazz artists it offers 'musos' a wonderful assortment of compund seven chords on which to construct great improvised riffs.
