UP A LAZY RIVER BY THE OLD MILL RUN,
THAT LAZY HAZY RIVER IN THE NOON - DAY SUN
LINGER IN THE SHADE OF A KIND OAK TREE
THROW AWAY YOUR TROUBLES, DREAM A DREAM WITH ME.
UP A LAZY RIVER WHERE THE RO BIN'S SONG
A WAKES A BRIGHT NEW MORNIN', WE CAN LOAF A LONG,
BLUE SKIES UP A BOVE, EVERY ONE'S IN LOVE
UP A LAZY RI.......VER, HOW HAPPY YOU COULD BE,
UP A LAZY RI.....VER WITH ME ..................................................................................
Hoagland Howard "Hoagy" Carmichael (1899 - 1981) is often referred to as the greatest writer of Jazz songs of the first 1/2 of the 20th Century. Who would argue, given he wrote "Stardust" !
You will get some practice with chromatic runs using barred dominant 7ths and 9ths (minor 6ths) here.
Note: Every ninth is also a minor sixth. Can you figure this out ?
Tip: Bar 3rd fret to make Cm7, now move the 7th (Bb) to the 6th (A) on 4th string - get it? It's Cm6 now.....
Once you work out any formula for a chord change of name you have got all 12 because chord relationships are always constant and the formulae work both ways.....ws
